We received alot of feedback from teachers throughout the making process and also from other students which helped us make the best possible video. Especially the advice from our teachers, they have experience and idea’s to help us within this project. Audience feedback was important, because they are the people who we made this video for, but also because having someone else watch it will offer a fair objective view, and may notice other things we don’t etc.
Every time we had shot something and captured it, we tried to show our teacher as much as we could. She then offered her advice for improvements which we then followed; in some cases resulting in a re-shoot and in others just resulted in rearranging of editing. We did the same with our other media students - whenever they were free we showed them as well as other people some scenes and asked for their own personal views and advice. This helped us notice things we might not have noticed, for example if the story made sense or if the costumes match up. One example of when this came in particularly useful was the ending shots. We filmed them, however when we captured them and showed our teacher and students, but also saw it big on the computer, we decided that there was room for a lot of improvement. We changed the setting completely, as the advice our teacher gave was that there could be a more interesting setting, adding a variety to the video which we agreed with.
Also, we as a group and our other media students noticed that the acting of flirting was not very convincing, and our camera positing wasn’t the best. With all these factors pointed out by objective people, we re filmed the scene and believe the second time was a lot better. By having teachers around it really helped and improved our video. Luckily for our group there wasn’t many re-shoots we had to do, but with some of them our teachers and other students noticed things we didn’t. For example, with the shoe shots and editing them. We had spend so much time editing time trying to get them to run consecutively, it was better to get someone who hadn’t seen it before to see if the timings had worked or could be improved more because we had seen it so many times. Using other people throughout the process of making this allowed us not only to get a fresh pair of eyes to notice things that maybe we hadn’t, but also allowed us for their own interpretation and even ideas/advice with the
For the student responses, we made a viewing of our video. We invited a variety of students from different year groups and we also prepared and handed out our questionnaire. We then showed them our complete video and asked for their feedback.
Here is a copy of our questionaire we created.
This process was successful; however we did encounter a few problems. The first problem was that there was a technical problem and we couldn’t get our video to be shown on the projector where it would have been bigger. After a few attempts, we did manage it and the showing could start. We played it once, and repeated a second viewing while they started filling the questionnaire. We were restricted on time as it was lunchtime, so were unable to do another viewing which we would have liked. The responses from the questionnaire were quiet positive. The sample seemed to understand the storyline which was good, and they also feel that everything was effective in suiting the school. They also all got around about the same target audience, which shows that we have aimed at them correctly and have been successful. One thing I am very happy about is the fact that 100 percent of the sample answered that they enjoyed the video, and with the rating marks, all are 7 and above with 7 marking us with 10, the highest. This is very good news for us, because it shows that people found our video successful and enjoy it. People had their own opinions on what were the best scenes and also what wasn’t as successful, but overall we received very good comments. A few people found the kissing scene ‘cringy’ however others found it ‘comic’, so down to individual personality. By looking at the results, Poppy was reacted too very well. They found her performance as very good and thought her acting was ‘really impressive’. 12 people would want to find out more about her and follow her progress, and all the ones who answered no supported there answer with they didn’t like the song or genre of music which was the reason why they wouldn’t want more information. One of our main aims of this video and project was to introduce a new artist, Poppy. And we seem to have done this successfully as everyone responded to her very positively. People think that the video suits the genre well, and the style is very ‘fun’ ‘bright’ ‘girly’ ‘light-hearted’ ‘romance’ which is what we aimed for.
I am very happy with our comments, the majority are very positive. We as a group feel very happy with our video, and considering all the comments, we believe this a good version for our final video.
Overall audience responses really did have an effect on our production. We needed it to get an objective view to see what people thought of our video to help improve it. We wanted to make this video successful, and in order to that we needed to know what our audience thought of it. Using other students was a very good way, especially media students as we can all help each other and all interested in it so are able to share ideas and help with each other.
We also allowed and asked for comments through a link on facebook and on the site it was uploaded onto called Vimeo.
