My third song choice is from the TV series Britannia High. It is called Picking up the pieces, and is performed by the cast. It is a very upbeat and catchy song, with a fast and happy chorus. The verses begin very slow and quiet deep, with the lyrics being quiet sad, however throughout the song it becomes much more positive and happier. I like the idea of this being mainly narrative, but also maybe performance.
I think this would be a good idea to use, about the characters journey and what is bothering her, and then her friends coming to her and cheering her up, and everything turning out alright, which would have an impact on the target audience. The meaning being that you shouldn’t give up and to keep going because things will be alright. This will be effective for the audience because everyone goes through bad times every now again, and this song will help have an encouraging meaning to the viewer. I think the target audience would be teenagers, as the songs are very pop, catchy and the kind of song you would dance around to. Also the show had a main target audience of teenagers, so this who the song is clearly aimed for.
The idea’s I have so far for this, would be to introduce the first singer, she would be walking along on a beach thinking and considering, with something clearly bothering her. I like the idea of there being shots of her with puzzle pieces, trying to put the pieces together but she can’t. I also like the idea of using giant puzzle pieces and she has missing ones, and then when her friends appear they have them. She would be singing along and clearly being sad, in a lonely environment. I like the idea of a beach because I think it would represent freedom and is also a large space, representing how lost she it within herself. When the chorus and faster part of the song starts, I would have the mood change totally, with different flashbacks and photos of her friends and her happy times, fast paced and clearly happy, crosscutting to all different places and experiences when she was happy with her friends. I then would have short sections within the other verse with her friends joining and singing to her, supporting her. This would show the main theme of friends. Her friends would be helping her put the pieces of the puzzle together, or they would have the missing pieces. All her friends would be with her on the beach and helping her put together the puzzle pieces and being happy and having fun in the sea side, dancing around jumping, having a laugh in the sea, eating ice cream etc. This would be a happy and encouraging ending, which I think would have a big impact on the audience. This also supports the song fully, as it is following the story line within it.
The target audience would be teenage girls, so I think by including friendship as the main theme then it would appeal to them. Also, it would have a positive and constructive impact for them. I think this music idea has a lot of potential.
