Song Choice 1

My first potential song choice is The Call by Regina Spektor. This song is used in the film Narnia Prince Caspian, in the ending of the film.
I have chosen this song because I think it is very meaningful and would be good to make a more emotive type of video. I really like the song, and I think it is a serious song with deep meaning, so I think it would be interesting to work with that. It is quiet a slow song; and it is very sweet and also sensitive. I think it brings in lot emotions for the listener, mainly hope. I think that hope would be a strong and positive theme for a video to convey, and would have a lasting impact on the audience, making the song and video more memorable. This song personally reminds me of themes such as family & friends which I think would be a good starting point and something that an audience could definitely relate to.
This song isn’t that well known, and there is no current video for it, so it would be all original.
It would also have a chance to incorporate a slight factor of intertextuality. Even though I would want to move away from the film, I think that the fact it is a successful popular film, means that it should be connected within the video.
I think there are many approaches to this song. I personally have idea’s relating to making this video as a narrative video, to have a story within it. I think the lyrics would be good for this, and there could be clear links. I think the main idea I would have for this would be to make it personal, emotive and also a sweet video. I would want this video to highlight emotions and different themes for the audience, making it more meaningful to different people.
The main idea I have is to have different sub stories of people leaving, or splitting up or moving away, etc. Something that the audience could be able to relate to and understand. I then would show a slight bit of all their different journeys, and cross cut between each individual story. This song would strongly empathise this story and I think it would be very relevant. I have also got other ideas, for example a very personal story of the journey with one character and their life. All the ideas I have with this song are with similar approaches, being emotive.
I think this song would be a strong choice. The main point to why I think this song would be a good choice would be because I think this is a very powerful song, and I think if the music video was successful it would bring to light deeper issues and would impact the audience.
